Welcome to North Shore University Hospital's award-winning Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in Manhasset, New York. Our department is part of an extensive network of world-class orthopaedic resources available through the Orthopaedic Institute at North Shore-LIJ Health System. Our orthopaedic services encompass several sites within the health system. Our orthopaedic physicians offer unparalleled expertise in general orthopaedic surgery as well as highly specialized surgical procedures. The strength of our program comes from a multidisciplinary team approach that draws on the expertise and experience of high-caliber specialists to develop an individualized care plan for each patient.

North Shore University Hospital is a tertiary center that offers comprehensive patient care. It is a Level I trauma center with an extensive Emergency Department, well equipped and highly technical main and ambulatory operating rooms and an excellent free-standing Rehabilitation Center. State-of-the-art medical care is readily available including extensive surgical and medical intensive care units.

Over 3,000 Orthopaedic Surgeries in a Single Year
In 2011, over 3000 orthopaedic procedures were performed at North Shore University Hospital. A large volume of general orthopaedic operations and reconstructive surgeries including total joint replacements, spine surgery, and fracture fixation are performed weekly. Our specialized operating rooms are well equipped with the latest technology for performing highly specialized orthopaedic procedures.

In addition, our department has a robust ambulatory surgery orthopaedic program for surgeries such as arthroscopic procedures of the shoulder, knee, elbow, wrist, ankle and virtually all hand and foot procedures.

For our patients who will be staying in the hospital for one or more nights, we offer a newly renovated Orthopaedic Patient Care Unit. Our nurses have received specialized training for providing care to surgical patients, and many have received advanced certifications in orthopaedic nursing.Our orthopaedic clinics are very active. We provide a weekly, general orthopaedic clinic and monthly specialty clinics for sports, total joint, hand, foot/ankle, spine/scoliosis, trauma and orthopaedics.

Spinal Surgery Program
North Shore University Hospital’s Spinal Surgery Program offers comprehensive care within a highly integrated health care system.  Our fellowship trained orthopedists provide an array of services including discectomy, laminectomy, and fusion.  The program’s goal is to provide specialized care to every patient and return each patient to normal function as quickly and safely as possible.  The surgeons of our spine program are involved in orthopaedic research and utilize the latest technological advancements in their surgical procedures.  At NSUH patients will have access to a specialized multidisciplinary team including Pain Management, Cardiology, Traumatologists, and Physiatrists.  Utilizing a team approach to patient care optimizes patient outcomes and satisfaction.

Total Joint Replacement Program
North Shore University Hospital’s Total Joint Replacement Program offers a continuum of musculoskeletal care within a highly integrated health care system.  The program is designed to deliver high quality specialized care to every patient and return each patient to normal function as quickly and safely as possible.  The program’s fellowship trained orthopedists bring the highest level of credentials, specialty training, and experience to our Total Joint Replacement Program.  They work together with a treatment team that provides an exceptional level of personal attention to every patient.  We employ the latest techniques available to enhance our clinical team’s ability to restore function and maximize the clinical outcomes of our patients.

From the East
Take the Long Island Expressway to exit 33. Make the first right onto Community Drive, then turn left onto Northern Blvd. Take Northern Blvd. to the building on right, just before the intersection of Lakeville Road.

From the West
Take the Long Island Expressway to exit 33. Make the first left onto Lakeville Rd to Northern Blvd, then turn right onto Northern Blvd. The building will be on the left hand side.


Valet parking is available for your convenience. Parking is also available in the building parking lot, street level and underground.
By Car
From New York - Take the Long Island Expressway (Route 495) to Exit 33 (Lakeville Road Community Drive). From the west, go to the second traffic light and make a left turn onto Community Drive. From the east make a right onto Community Drive. The hospital entrance is approximately 1/2 mile down on the right side. Use entrance number 3. You can park in the visitors’ parking garage. The entrance is on the right-hand side. The daily cost for parking is $6. The hospital main entrance (Monti Lobby) is directly across from the main garage entrance. The airport closest to the hospital is LaGuardia.
From New Jersey - Take the George Washington Bridge to the Cross Bronx Expressway. Follow signs to the Throgs Neck Bridge. Cross the bridge and exit onto the Cross Island Parkway. Take the Cross Island Parkway to the Long Island Expressway and follow directions above from Queens.
By Bus
MSBA bus routes N25 and, during rush hour, N26, provide service to the hospital. For information and schedules on MSBA buses, call (516) 222-1000. Cow-Bay Transportation operates a bus system linking the hospital with Port Washington, Roslyn, Great Neck, Little Neck and the surrounding communities.
